Even when you know exactly what you are trying to say it is hard to put yourself in the shoes of the reader...your brain won't allow you to be unbiased. Even if you are an exceptional writer, it is often difficult to critique your own work.

You may need to convey a relatively technical message, but who is your audience? Are they technical or lay people? Should you use industry jargon or common words? Perhaps you need to convey an emotional message. Are you too personally involved in the project? Will your passion alienate or engage your reader?
