When
you are receiving mail that has been forwarded
to an address from another address, you may
want to set up Outlook so that replies show
the original address and not that of the actual
mailbox you are using. (i.e. - you may have
your business email address of bob@yourbusiness.com
forwarded to bob@mindspring.com, or similar).
These
steps may be used in general setup to show the
return address of your choice, forwarded or
not. These screen shots are of Outlook 2003/XP.
Other versions of Outlook have the same features,
though they may not be titled the same.
Step
1 - at the top of the Outlook screen,
on the toolbar, click "Tools"
and then, when the drop box opens, click
on "E-mail Accounts."
Step
2 - after you click "E-mail Accounts"
a window called "E-mail Accounts"
will pop up. If you are modifying an existing
account, use the selection "View
or change existing..." and click
"Next."
(pass
your mouse over the graphic for a closer
look)
Step
3 - after you click "Next"
a new window will pop up. You may have
one account or many, as in the example
to the right. Find the account that you
wish to work with and double click on
the account name.
(pass
your mouse over the graphic for a closer
look)
Step
4 - after you double click on the
account name, a new window called "Internet
E-mail Settings" will pop up.
Under
"User Information" the "Your
Name" field will appear on any email
that you send or reply to. This can be
your name or your company name. The
"E-mail Address" field is the
actual e-mail address of your account.
If
this information is correct, click the
"More Settings" button.
(pass
your mouse over the graphic for a closer
look)
Step
5 - in the new window, make sure that
the "General" tab has been clicked
and is forward. In the "Reply E-mail"
box, type in the address you wish to show
when you reply to someone.
When
finished typing in the return address,
click the "OK" button at the
bottom of the window. The "Internet
E-mail Settings" window will still
be present on your screen, so click "Next"
on that window and "Finish"
on the following window. You will be back
to the main screen of Outlook.
You
may want to send a test email and reply
to it to make sure the change is working
properly.
